King’s Cross St Pancras Station Redevelopment
Clients: London Underground/Costain O’Rourke Bachy Emcor Rail JV
Overview
In making St Pancras Station the terminal for the High Speed 1 train services to Europe, a substantial refurbishment and expansion was required to the existing Grade 1 listed station and train shed.
In addition, a major upgrade of King’s Cross St Pancras underground station, one of London’s busiest stations, was necessary to meet increased passenger demand from the new High Speed 1. The project included expansion and redevelopment of the existing ticket hall and construction of two new ticket halls underground involving major interfaces between London Underground and Network Rail.
The works had an impact on King’s Cross and St Pancras mainline stations, both Grade 1 listed buildings and affected other listed buildings in a Conservation Area. CJ Associates was responsible for obtaining all planning and heritage approvals for the London Underground works to the Grade 1 listed buildings under the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) Act, preparing a suite of agreements with Network Rail, Union Railways and DfT; and managing commercial negotiations between Network Rail and London Underground. We were also responsible for obtaining all the contractor’s consents and approvals (planning, heritage and environmental) for the works at St Pancras mainline station.
