Strategic Advice and Project Management
We provided strategic advice and project management assistance to Centro for the development of three extensions to Line 1 of the Midland Metro: from Wednesbury to Dudley and Brierly Hill, through Birmingham City Centre to Five Ways, and into Wolverhampton City Centre. There were major interfaces with Network Rail, property developers, several local authorities and both city centre bus services. Innovative use was made of a disused rail corridor for freight and Metro services.
Consents Review
The Midland Metro (Wolverhampton City Centre Extension) Order 2016 (the Order) and associated planning direction authorised the construction, operation and maintenance of an extension to the Midland Metro tramway system in Wolverhampton city centre. CJ Associates obtained planning approval for the discharge of technical related conditions, attached to the Planning Direction. This involved working with the construction contractors and Wolverhampton City Council to agree the approach to archaeology, contaminated land, highways access, ecological mitigation and the Code of Construction Practice. The timely approval of these technical matters ensured that construction could commence on time.
